Battling the Fudge Pudge

First of all, congratulations to all of you who had races today! I've read so many awesome race reports... even a few Boston Qualifiers!

Thanks for all the advice regarding my calf. It still hurts so I'm going to keep giving it rest and try rolling it with The Stick. Hopefully, I'll be able to get back out there soon! I still don't know what is going on with it but I'm not too worried since I've gone through worse in my short running history.

Meanwhile, I will continue with my strength training. The Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge starts tomorrow and I want to kick butt in this challenge... even if it is just my own. I'm going to need the motivation to keep myself from gaining weight over the holidays. My body just doesn't metabolize like it used to.

So Hard to Say NO
My biggest temptations during this time of year are fudge and Egg Nog Lattes from Starbucks. I don't mean to brag, but I make the best fudge I've ever tasted (I think it's the Godiva White Chocolate Liqueur I put into the mix). I love to make it... and sample it. A lot of it.

The Egg Nog Latte thing... let's just say, it's a good thing they don't make them year-round. I would drink them year-round and I'd probably be 400 lbs by now. Mmmmm...

So, my question for you is:

Which high-calorie holiday food(s) do you find hard to resist? How do you successfully avoid them... or at least eat in moderation?

Good luck to everyone taking on the Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge! If you don't know what that is, check it out here. I'm sure it's not too late to sign up!

For me it's chocolate. I just love to eat chocolate, when the kids are finally in bed, and I flop down on the couch.

I like your blog, by the way, and would love to exchange links.

Sadly, I'm a sugaraholic, so anything sweet is a problem for me. Also, I'm a big fan of the dark, heavy winter beers, so I end up drinking more during the holidays and that, of course, leads to eating more. Sigh.

Good luck with avoiding the "fudge pudge".

love the new look! I'm more of a salty snacker than sweet, but love nutella!

I love fudge! Yours sounds decadent. Are you able to freeze your fudge? I freeze mine and put it WAY back of the freezer so no one gets into it, and I can have a piece on occasion, like on the day I plan to have desserts.

All things in moderation. I don't stay away from holiday treats, I just plan when I'm going to have them. I also don't leave them out for me to bury my face in them, either. LOL... For some bizarre reason I do better with weight during the holidays than I do at any other time of the year, maybe because I get busier, I'm not sure.
My family makes AMAZING fudge too.. we will be whipping up a batch soon and then my thighs will GROW.. I figure that I can pack on the holiday 5 and be OK.. I will keep up my training to reduce the overall impact.

Wow - the fudge sounds awesome!

I love to bake, so any type of cake, bread, muffin, etc. is my weakness. I try to bake and give it away, but people think you are trying to poison them or something when you show up on their doorstep with baked goodness for the 5th time that month. :)

MMMMM, fudge! That picture is killing me. Fudge and our Christmas sugar cookies are it as far as sweets. Chips and salsa and the cheese ball are my salty holiday friends/enemies.

Geez. What holiday food don't I find hard to resist?

Now that my Wawa is carrying egg nog next to the chocolate milk, I must tread very carefully in there.

I don't have a specific food during the holidays, but it's always hard for me to resist chocolate, especially m and m's. Good luck with your calf. I tried the stick out at the Philly Fitness expo and I thought that it really worked.

I have a hard time with chocolate!!!! I love fudge too! :) I make TONS of Christmas cookies and freeze them immediately. Then just before Chritmas I thaw, divide into tins and deliver. That way they are not around me for too long. I do sample at least one of each kind though. :)

Moderation-- whats that?

I LOVE the holidays particularly for the food-- The good news, I am training for a marathon during this holiday so should be able to eat well and (hopefully) maintain my weight.

My weakness? Lets see...mmm.. this is hard.

pumpikin pie

cheese-- lots of cheese-- dozens of those little cubes

chicken wing dip

stuffing

mashed potatoes

gravy

My mother's sweet rolls

My mother's cookies

Bean casserole with those crunchy onion things

and last but not least:

Alcohol!!!

Ok-- that took me less than 30 seconds to type all of that-- not so hard after all! :)

Yum, I LOVE eggnog lattes too! So delish! I had my first last Sunday and I've got to hold back for a few more weeks. I finally recognized a trail, the one at the top of your blog!! I ran it three times last summer and it is so pretty! Those are fun trails back there with some excellent hills!
